NCAA national championship game, Oreo and 'Game of Thrones': 5 things you need to know Monday  2 Months ago

Source:   USA Today

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament comes to an end Monday night, as Virginia and Texas Tech square off at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (9:20 p.m. ET, CBS) for the national championship. It’s the first time either of these schools has ever reached the title game. After last year’s historic loss in the first round, a national championship would be the ultimate redemption for Virginia and coach Tony Bennett. Expect points to be at a premium tonight, as Virginia (No. 1) and Texas Tech (No. 3) are among the very best defensive teams in the nation.

Revolutionary War general Casimir Pulaski was dubbed the “Father of the American Cavalry” in a presidential proclamation last October, but an upcoming documentary will show research suggesting Pulaski may have been female or intersex. Researchers have examined remains believed to be Pulaski's and used skeletal evidence to document the case that Pulaski, who lived as a man, may have been a woman or an intersex individual — a person who has both female and male biological characteristics. The Smithsonian Channel will premiere a documentary about the research — "America’s Hidden Stories: The General Was Female?" — on Monday at 8 p.m.

Two years ago, Sesame Street premiered on the show its first character with autism. Her name is Julia. She is 4 years old and has bright red hair. She is played by Stacy Gordon, a mom whose son is autistic. Now, in honor of Autism Awareness Month, Sesame Street has introduced Julia's family and launched new resources for those impacted by autism, which is approximately 1 in 59 American children, according to the CDC. A new Sesame Street episode airing Monday on HBO and PBS KIDS follows Julia as she goes for a haircut – something that many parents say is challenging for children on the spectrum.

To paraphrase the show's iconic greeting, all men are going to die for the new "Game of Thrones"-inspired Oreo. With Season 8 of the hit HBO show premiering on April 14, the new "GoT" snacks will feature four embossed cookie designs highlighting the Great Houses still battling for the Iron Throne and the enemy White Walkers beyond the wall. The Oreo cookies are available for a limited time, starting Monday, across the country, while supplies last. The edible insignias on the cookies are House Lannister, House Targaryen, House Stark and the Night King. Other than that, they’re the same Oreos you know; and, no, the cream isn’t red.

Kelsey Turner was living in a Las Vegas home paid for by the California psychiatrist she is accused of beating to death, newly released warrant documents allege. Investigators have named Turner, a model who has posed for magazines including Playboy's Italian website and Maxim, as a suspect in Burchard's brutal killing. The battered body of the 71-year-old Salinas doctor was discovered March 7 in the trunk of a car abandoned on a dirt road near Lake Mead, east of Las Vegas. Turner has waived her right to an extradition hearing and has a court date scheduled for Monday, defense attorney Brian J. Smith, said last week.
