Nitish Kumar would be 'repenting' his decision to return to NDA, says Ashok Gehlot  2 Months ago

PATNA: AICC general secretary and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar would now be “repenting” for his last year’s decision to realign with the BJP.

“Nitish Kumar’s decision to return to NDA fold was a ‘wrong step’ and he would now be repenting for it,” Gehlot told reporters after having a meeting with senior leaders of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) at its state headquarters Sadaqat Ashram here.

Referring to BJP’s huge posters, hoardings and flags put up on all roads of the state capital to welcome its president Amit Shah, Gehlot said the saffron party spend crores of rupees on welcoming Shah in Patna. “From where did BJP get such a huge sum of money to put up so many hoardings and posters?” he quipped.

Gehlot further criticised the Narendra Modi government for beating drums on the enhanced MSP for Kharif crops. He said the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was unnecessarily taking credit for the recent enhancement in the MSP because farmers were not going to be benefitted by it.

Responding to a query by media, he said the Congress was once a very strong force in Bihar. It ruled the state for decades on the strength of its own MLAs but now it had formed an alliance with RJD as its strength declined over the years. He said it was necessary that the party leaders and workers worked hard to revive its lost glory.

Gehlot, who was in the state capital to address birth anniversary function of former Bihar CM Satyendra Narayan Sinha, also called on the RJD chief Lalu Prasad at the latter’s residence to inquire about his health. Lalu, who is currently on bail, is recuperating at his Patna residence following his fistula operation in Mumbai.

Earlier while addressing a meeting of the BPCC functionaries, Gehlot called upon the party men to sink their differences and work hard to revive the party in Bihar. He asked the workers to take necessary steps to strengthen the organization at booth and panchayat level in the wake of upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
